Trump’s First Executive Orders: What They are and How You Can Act

In his first hours as president, Donald Trump unleashed a firestorm, signing 26 executive orders undercutting our freedoms and endangering our planet.

Trump did the following:

  • Pardoned 1,500 convicted January 6 insurrectionists—some of whom severely injured Capitol Police officers
  • Withdrew the United States from the Paris Agreement, paving the way for more fossil fuel drilling and accelerating climate catastrophe—even while wildfires continue to ravage Southern California
  • Shut our doors to refugees and asylum seekers fleeing violence and illegally tried to end 150 years of birthright citizenship, which is protected in the Constitution
  • Signed an order to make roads worse and bridges more dangerous by freezing all spending of the Inflation Reduction Act and Infrastructure Bill
  • Signed orders to help fossil fuel companies pollute more by opening the Arctic Wildlife National Refuge to oil drilling and declaring a state of energy emergency in order to bypass environmental protections

Trump has promised “shock and awe”—a strategy which isn’t a surprise but something we all will need to be aware of and vigilant about with this administration. It’s easy to get distracted by the shocking things he says and does, but remember, that’s his strategy. Don’t get distracted, discouraged, or sidetracked.

As an example of his strategy, Trump’s team said he would sign 200 executive orders on Day 1; the actual number was 26

Despite his ability to cause chaos, much of his agenda, including his Project 2025 objective to cut Social Security and Medicare, is deeply unpopular with voters and politicians.

Here’s what we plan to do to resist the Trump era:
