Republicans have taken their climate crisis denial one step too far.
U.S. Senator Richard Burr (R-North Carolina) introduced a bill that would consolidate the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency into a single new agency called the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE).
The DOE exists, in part, to protect America’s financial interests in energy—not the environment. If the DOE becomes the taskmaster of the EPA, severe conflicts of interest will occur to weaken the EPA’s ability to perform its sole function—protecting our health and environment.
