Wisconsin Students Organize Nationwide School Walkout

Wisconsin students have organized a nationwide walkout on Friday, March 11 at 2PM to stand up for their teachers, whose rights are under attack.

Republicans had no idea they were going to awaken a whole new generation of activists by trying to dismantle unions in Wisconsin. But that’s exactly what they’ve done.

Protest coordinator Jesse Banks, a senior at Wisconsin’s Madison East High School, says that the idea of a nationwide walk-out “came out of an entirely student-run meeting” because the students “wanted to do something that added visibility to how the attacks on unions and schools are harmful to kids.” The organizing happened on Facebook through the event “Nationwide Student Walkout” and the group Wisconsin Students in Solidarity.

Unfortunately, Jesse has it wrong… Unions are harmful schools and kids.nnThe fact that he doesn’t understand that shows that his “education” is seriously lacking.

Jesse is demonstrating (and organizing) against an unjust bill signed into law by a Governor who decided to sell the state of WI to the highest bidders, And if you think that is “harmful”, I suggest you take a remedial course in American History.

Hey, I see this state walk out by high school students went real well. Only a handfull of kids participated in mainly liberal districts such as Milwaukee and Madison. Just proves there really are not as many people in general out there against what Gov Walker has accomplished. Just a bunch of profession hippie protestors and alot of college students who enjoy the free pizza the union gives them!

Is that what they teach in American History these days?nI guess a “free” public education does have its “costs”…..so sad.

People are mobilizing in every state! Standing up to the plutocracy! Standing up to corporations who pay no taxes, reap huge profits, and pay their employees so little that they qualify for food stamps! I know, I see it every day. I’ve counseled men who came back from Iraq and have to go on state assistance. People who got cancer and lost their jobs. This is what I care about. People work at Walmart and Bank of America and don’t have enough to eat. It’s not acceptable. It has to change, and thanks to the unions who are mobilizing the people, it will!

No, we are the shrinking middle class that can not understand why some annual report from big business continue to grow over the last 5-7 years, yet they do not invest it back into the workforce which would grow the tax base. Spent sometime looking at fortune 500 companies bottom lines.nn “Nothing goes better with a Koch”.

yes, Unfortunately you have hit the nail on the the head. SO as my son in the Air Forces says be the the hammer not the anvil AND SEE HOW WE RILE THEM. n We are the shrinking middle class that can not understand why some annual report from big business continue to grow over the last 5-7 years, yet they do not invest it back into the workforce which would grow the tax base. nn”Nothing goes better with a Koch”.

Hope to see you all out on Tuesday the 15 to show them that we have a voice and we are not afraid to use. Our brother and sister gave their lives for the 40 hour work week and child labor laws.nn”Nothing goes better with a Koch”.

I agree. I can’t understand why, if you have all the money in the world you would spend your efforts dis-empowering others. Wouldn’t you want to bring people up, not down? I don’t get the mindset.

Why do you think we should get the big corporations money? They earned it, and it’s their job to make money. Fortune 500 companies provide thousands with jobs, so it’s difficult for me to see why we should get upset with them. It seems a lot like jealousy and greed. You know why those businesses annual reports are growing? Because they are going overseas more and more. Tax breaks to these companies help keep them in America. Oh look! I stayed in school and actually learned something. Thankfully my Wisconsin school isn’t unionized.

Because they have moved their businesses overseas where there are better tax breaks. What about the taxpayers bailing out the Union auto workers_ I personally didn’t want to have to pay for that and then they move a plant in Wisconsin to Mexico. Nice going Union people there.

I have a great idea. Let’s tax the rich . We could impose a 98% tax on income over 250,000. After all, they are the top 2% and can well afford it.The extra revenue can be distributed to the other 98% of the population. We will then be an egalitarian society where no one is encouraged to go the extra mile, hire more employees, work a few extra hours.Sounds like Cuba.

they continue to grow because your beloved clinton signed a free trade agreement with china.nnMany US companies do not really operate in the US anymore. They make profit and pay their foreign workers with it. If you want to join the growing Chinese middle class, have at it. nnPeople who WHINE about how the corporations are making money while we are losing jobs really show they have *NO IDEA* how the world works. None at all. The more liberals you elect into office the worse it gets. The turn everything they touch into sh!t.nnAs far as corps not paying “taxes”. That’s another thing that shows your ignorance. Corporation profits go to the shareholders who in turn pay taxes on those profits. The whole “this corporation didnt pay taxes but made a huge profit” liberal whine is just an unfounded, uneducated liberal red herring the liberal rags throw out because they know their undedicated sheep will cry foul. It truely is scary to see how many of you have the right to vote….

its actually more like this:nnThey are trying to build a wall around themselves because the horde keep trying to drag them out with pitchforks because they actually work for a living. (and pay most of the taxes in the country)

oh..we already know you have a voice you’re not afraid to use….just like most spoiled 2 year olds that throw tantrums.

As economist R. Rich wrote: What we need to do is lower the middle class taxes so we will start buying. As someone once said money is like manure, it’s not worth a damn until you spread it around. Next step, for those with income of 250,000 tax them at 40% over 1,000,000 tax them at 50%, one billion and over tax would be 60%. Also, charge a fee for each stock transaction. Simple.

“earned it” yea right, just like the koch brothers who inherited daddy’s business. Billionaires don’t work for a living they own things and make a profit simply by having the capital in the first place. What America needs is more innovators and less fat cats. We have been consistently taking money out of education and feeding it to corporate America. The last 10 years are a testament that trickle down economics never works. Engineers and scientists create new businesses not rich sociopaths who never worked a day in their life.

People like you know something about being spoiled. The laws you bash usually aren’t for the people who fight for them. They’re for the underpriviledged and the down trodden in America who the Right almost never acknowledges. It only acknowledges those poeple as lazy not oppressed or disenfranchised through the doings of other people. Just lazy. Any attempt to help those people: African Americans, Native Americans, immigrants generally, who come to America for the dream of a better life, is communism or the Right’s favorite byword for vague evil socialism.
