MoveOn.org Civic Action’s gift acceptance policy

MoveOn.org Civic Action must have adequate financial resources to lead and win game-changing campaigns for progressive change and to lower the barriers to democracy in the United States. In striving to meet this goal, we will only seek out or accept contributions that are consistent with our values. MoveOn.org Civic Action accepts donations based on the following principles.

Consistent with MoveOn’s mission
We will solicit and accept support only for projects and activities that are consistent with our mission of running and winning advocacy campaigns on issues important to progressives, while elevating ordinary Americans’ voices in our democracy.

Serves our members and the public
Donations or gifts to MoveOn must enhance, and shall not impede, our ability to act in service or our members’ values and priorities.

Independence
We will never accept any donation that would compromise our independence, or give any donor undue influence over our mission, goals, or campaigns.

Transparency
MoveOn believes that disclosure of funding sources is a key to democracy, and we therefore will disclose every contributor to MoveOn.org Civic Action who gives gifts totaling $5,000 or more in any year as well as the amount of each such contributor’s gifts.

Our 2017 contributions of $5,000 or greater are listed here.

Our 2016 contributions of $5,000 or greater are listed here.

Our 2015 contributions of $5,000 or greater are listed here.

Member-driven
MoveOn exists so that ordinary Americans can have a voice in the political process.  Donations from hundreds of thousands of our members are the heart of our financial support, and our fundraising efforts will reflect that.

People-powered
MoveOn believes that big money and corporations wield too much influence in the political process. We do not accept contributions from for-profit corporations or government entities, from government sources, or from entities formed outside of the U.S.

Stewardship
We will always follow the highest ethical and legal standards regarding solicitation of funds, reporting, and financial management.

Respect
MoveOn values our members and supporters and we will always use best practices regarding donor communication and privacy.
