Did Wisconsin Republicans Break The Law?

Yes. In their frenzy to strip rights from teachers, nurses, and snowplow drivers, it looks like the GOP broke Wisconsin’s Open Meetings Law. Watch this heart-thumping clip from the committee hearing, starring Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca:

And that chanting you hear in the background? It’s tens of thousands of protesters yelling, “Shame! Shame! Shame!” Here’s a clip of it:

Rep. Barca has now filed an official legal complaint with the Dane County Attorney General.

Typical response from Democrats (unions) when they are the minority party – if you don’t have the power to influence a Congressional vote, then either attempt to back-door your agenda through legal recourse, run and hide, or import your union thugs to drum up an even worse anarchy than the sort for which you condemn the Tea party movement.nnYou’re a very cynical lot.

  • Anonymous

Legal recourse is only available when a law has been broken. You don’t seem to mind the law having been broken, as long as it’s by Republicans, and you don’t seem to be making anything but gross generalizations, to which it is difficult to respond. I would love to hear about this importing of “union thugs,” so please do try and be more specific, if you can. The bright side is the irony with which you ended your post. And, of course, that your post ended.

  • BlueIA

Come on now, who’s *really* using the tactic to back-door an agenda??nnTypical, disparage good citizens by calling them “union thugs.”

  • http://twitter.com/PatrynXX Lee Bartholomew

any arrests made after this illegal act , or anyone who was carried out should be null and void and sued.

  • http://twitter.com/PatrynXX Lee Bartholomew

Actually new study says RW is the most cynical. Drowining out the voice of the people, Republicans, Independents and Democrats isn’t America. Mind you there are Republican Union households. And I guess some Tea Party Unions. That just found out they got screwed.

  • Anonymous

Wow. Thanks to Barca for his bravery and persistence in speaking up in the face of legislators who seem to have no trouble breaking the law and then walking away.

Who was running and hiding during the Healthcare Act vote? Oh yeah, Republicans were. Didn’t see any RW criticism for all that.nnRepublicans are a very cynical lot.

What the WI Democratic Senators did in leaving the state was no different than what U.S. Republican Senators did in filibustering and placing secret holds on almost every piece of legislation during the first two years of the Obama administration, except that the WI Senators used this tactic, as the filibuster has historically been used, only to stop an extreme change in rights, not for every little thing.nnFurthermore, the WI Republicans have blatantly broken the open-meetings law and have obviously contradicted themselves about whether the collective bargaining provisions are fiscal in nature. First they insisted that the collective bargaining provisions were fiscal issues; then they said they could be passed without a quorum because they were not fiscal matters; then Walker said this morning again that they were fiscal items.nnThe national and state Republican politicians are absolutely ruthless and will do anything–legal or not, honest or not, ethical or not–to further the interests of the Koch brothers and their other corporate overlords. They are determined to turn this great nation into the Corporate States of America! They serve only their Unholy Trinity: the rich, the rascists, and the religious right.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GT4HEJNMQ7SW7GHDLNSVFPNEPY Brilliant

As I heard it, no Republicans left their Congressional chamber when votes were cast (even though they knew they didn’t have the votes to stop the bill).nnDid you see something different?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GT4HEJNMQ7SW7GHDLNSVFPNEPY Brilliant

You’re right, and I agree, and I’ll admit it. I should not have used the term “thugs”. My apologies.

  • http://twitter.com/jdisario Jeff DiSario

What is ridiculous is that liberals believe that they have a right to hold taxpayers hostage, EVEN when there is a budget crisis! All Scott Walker asked was for the state employees to pitch in to their own retirement funds the same amount that most other Americans do to their own 401(k) plans. That is far from being a draconian measure. nnWhere was MoveOn’s outrage when the 111th Congress used the Constitution as toilet paper and used all sorts of backroom dealings and arm twisting to pass the healthcare bill that is nothing short of abuse of the enumerated powers of congress? You guys are hypocrites!

What some of you don’t get is that the public service union employers are at the top of a collapsing middle class economic souffle. Once the unions go, there is no voice for the people, None. Zippo. The people are without power. The reason that so many smart people got involved in this was because they recognize this fact. In short, unless you are already very wealthy, prepare to work harder for less money and pay more tribute to the oil companies. You might think that you are above it because you have a job, but in the end, you are just a working schlep, and the Republicans have shown, over and over again, that they do not care one bit about you.

The repubs debated your health bill and voted and it still passed they didn’t run away so they couldn’t vote on it. But that doesn’t appear to be the dems way. Face it if the public unions are so great why force the people to pay your dues?

  • Anonymous

Note, this is a right wing liar in action, “All Scott Walker asked for was for the state employees to pitch in to their own retirement funds the same amount that most other Americans do to their own 401(k) plans.” Funny stuff “Jeff DiSario”, since he also wanted to make it illegal for the public union sectors involved to collective bargain for benefit in the future. I guess you think that 1+1=1 too.nHa, I can not say I support everything MoveOn does.

The ridiculous thing here is when confronted with reason and logic, liberals simply name-call and do not actually confront the issue. we are in an economic crisis! everyone has to make sacrifices, this includes your precious unions, and everyone else other than public employees are making big sacrifices and now we take a step towards getting out of debt and everyone complains.nI would rather prepare for the future then have immediate satisfaction now, there is no reason that public employees should not have to chip in for their benefits and retirement, the rest of the world does it, why should they be so special, now I have not attacked anyone personally i have just written with logic, respond and criticize with logic not with jeering and namecalling, which gets us no where

I can certainly see this is a site dedicated to those of you on the left. Well I support Gov Walker 100% and I am a Independant hard working Wisconsin citizen. The thing that amazes me the most about the left is how well the union lobbyist have taught all of you to throw hate everywhere. I know you are disapointed with the bill being passed, but come on;lighten up with the attacks! This bill was supported by the majority of us hard working citizen-republicans, independants, and democrats. The restriction on Collective bargaining will prevent the unions from coming back next year and demanding huge raises for everyone to offset the funding they will make to pensions and insurance. It is needed to provide some fiscal sanity. Alright…I am prepared for all of your attacks now on me personally for my comments.

  • Anonymous

Sorry, you dems & unions just got outsmarted! Too bad you didn’t get outraged when Obummer,Pelosi & Reid shoved the health care takeover down our throats!

  • Anonymous

They are not “force[ing] the people to pay your dues?”. The people who are paying the dues are the union members. Another Right Wing liar appears. Are you working shifts, or just changing screen names?

  • Anonymous

No, the unions got greedier. All they wanted them to do is pay their fair share of their own benefits. I think it’s funny that all you libs didn’t get upset when the Obummer clan was making back door deals and wouldn’t even let the repubs in the meetings. If your coward dem senators would of stuck around to debate, maybe it would of turned out differently. But they decided it wasn’t worth it and they took a bus out of state! Tell the dums we want the 105B that they stuck away in the health care bill!

  • Anonymous

I don’t recall the repubs getting on a bus and going out of town? When the going gets tough, the dumbs get out of town!!!hahahah

  • Anonymous

You are incorrect Knot-Gov Walker did not remove Collective bargaining, he provided necessary restrictions to allow municipalities in Wisconsin the ability to manage their payroll expenses; without the restriction the unions have the ability to force high wage increases for all above the normal cost of living index. How do you believe these cities can survive if they cannot balance their budgets. The unions have brainwashed their members. No one is against the workers, just the union lobbyists!

So, Sen Miller wanted to read the bill before it was voted on? I thought Pelosi once stated that you had to pass the bill to find out what is in the bill.

  • Anonymous

Actually they took the cuts. Funny, what they passed first was the anti-union bill and not the budget bill.

  • Anonymous

Not really, it will be found to be illegal. If not we will throw the Republicans out. Actually, we will anyways.nI am not a Democrat really either BTW.

  • Anonymous

Actually you are lying too. The polls say it is not supported. What is supported is budget cuts, not union busting moves like this one. Even the independent polls state that it is around 60% against the bill and 40% for it. Walker and any others with him will be recalled. This “law” will not stand a legal test either. Keep believing all the one sided news from Fox, Newsmax and the others, and you will be really surprised at what happens.nTaking away their legal collective bargaining for benefits is not needed. These are rational people who would cut even more if the situation does not improve.

  • Anonymous

Knot, I believe he meant since the citizens of Wisconsin are taxed in order to pay the salaries of public union employees, that in essence we are paying the union dues being charged; and he is absolutely right, we are paying the dues to the unions that then in turn are used to support the democratic candidates-real fair system isn’t it!

“smart” people? Let me tell you something…these “smart” people have a lot of nerve talking about “law” when they skipped town violating many laws on their own. They have a lot of nerve claiming a “law” was broken when they endorse fraudulent voting. They aren’t so smart, when they get up there and scream like idiots, instead of talking about it like rational people. That man is a lunatic, and that’s why they walked out. The “law” lets them have a meeting…the dems have to prove they shouldnt have had it. The Screaming Moron, would not let the opposition speak, and didnt allow him to explain, so the guy did what any SANE person would do, and just walked out. The unions agreed to the financial concessions regarding their pension benefits and health care benefits IMMEDIATELY, but that is not what Scott Walker and the Koch brothers really wanted. Don’t trust me, check any number of newspapers and television stations around the world, and they’re all reporting the same story- even Fox has reported this. The #GOP absolutely INSISTED on stripping collective bargaining rights, which reduces the deficit by how much? NOT ONE PENNEY. Actually it INCREASES Wisconsin’s deficit, because Wisconsin will now lose federal dollars. nnAnd FYI, it was the Republicans who ran out of the meeting last night, jumped in a bus, before hopping a plane to Washington DC, where a party was thrown in their honor by the very lobbyists who’s goal all along was to break the unions. nnn

  • http://twitter.com/tismeinaz1 NicGrioghar

    1. The law is the law and no two-bit politician has the right to break it. n2. The public workers do not have it better than private sector workers. For years they were underpaid with the promise of decent benefits. Now between their wages and benefits they are about even with the private sector. Some appear to make more but look at the degrees hanging on their walls and compare accurately. n3. A contract is a contract is a contract. When the living was good – the legislatures procrastinated and underfunded the pension funds – now there is no money and rather than face the truth they want to make the workers pay again. n4. The ad says it all – the WI legislature just gave tax cuts to the rich and want the public employees to pay for it. n5. How would you like a $3000.00 cut in your paycheck this next year? n6. Did the legislature vote a cut in their pay and adjust so they would pay more for their benefits? They too are public workers. nnTime for Muamar Fitzgerald and Hosni bin Walker to find out what it’s like to be unemployed.

Right on. If it weren’t for the unions and the WI unions in particular – we’d still be working 18 hour days – 7 days a week. No sick time or vacation time. No unemployment insurance or workman’s comp. No fire escapes – locked exits. There is more but this should make the point.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_K5LDVNB3255BUUNKE33CEPUC6M Steve D

Lets look at this logic. History shows when you over tax the rich the rich quit spending so then the middle class start getting layed off and they lose their homes. By the way when did they get a tax cut?

  • http://twitter.com/tismeinaz1 NicGrioghar

So you work for Koch or Blankenstein? Even Buffet says the tax cuts are a rip off and he doesn’t think it is fair that his secretary gets to pay a higher tax rate than he does.

  • http://twitter.com/tismeinaz1 NicGrioghar

You need to go back to school and learn your history, boy. You have those worker’s rights because union members fought and died for them for everyone.

  • Anonymous

I am only saying that teachers are usually payed a median income, that is in most states, and surely wisconsin can not afford to pay all those teachers that much, plus benefits. nAlso, the difference between that teacher and me is that I am not payed by taxpayers but by a private individual who gets to decide how much I make and am worth, and since I am a taxpayer, I do in fact have a say in how much public employees are paid. I know several good teachers but that does not mean they are worth all that much, now if you are a teacher employed by a private institution then you have every right to be paid as much as the institution wants to pay you, but when your dealing with someone else’s money you can’t spend it recklessly, with no regard to the people groaning under a ridiculous tax burden or with no regard to a debt that is piling up. If you do not have the money to buy something, you generally go without unless you have no financial sense whatsoever. It just makes sense.

  • Anonymous

well here is a bit of info you can look up yourself, in 2009 the top 3% were paying 87% of the countries tax revenue, now when their taxes keep going up and they cut more and more jobs it will not matter because we will all be on the unemployment line and the government certainly can’t handle that because when that happens there will not be many rich people left either, they already pay most of the taxes and i think they should but not so much that they cut more jobs

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6ZNBOXW6FIEY6QTKM3357JDSSY John

They did not break any law by skipping town.nnTheir BRAVE action helped open the eyes of Wisconsinites to the scam the governor and his Corporate overlords were about to perpetrate against the people of Wisconsin.nnTheir action was tantamount to a filibuster. If ever a piece of legislation needed filibuster, this was it. To destroy a century of hard-fought labor laws and rights by a simple majority in congress (and by cover of darkness, to boot) as the Governor tried to do at first, definitely demanded such dramatic action.nnThe “Wisconsin 14″ are American heroes of the first order.n

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_K5LDVNB3255BUUNKE33CEPUC6M Steve D

I am not talking about the Unions of old. The original Unions were the reaason there are laws now to protect the employee but the unions went on to become what they used to fight against. Don’t make a connection between what was done back in the 20′s and 30′s to the uinons of today. My dad was one of those that fought for workers rights and thn later saw the unions go corupt.

We have no disagreement there :)

  • http://twitter.com/tismeinaz1 NicGrioghar

And the Unions did agree to the cuts you idiot – read the paper but get off Fox Noise – warped and skewed. That has nothing to do with collective bargaining. Don’t go spouting off about hostage taking when Republican politico’s invented and excel at it. YOU are being held hostage by the republicans in government. The only thing you are good enough for is for your wallet and your vote. They don’t give a rats ass about you and your needs as a human being or a middle class worker. Tell me – can you afford to take a $3000 cut in your pay this year? If you based your house payment and all your other bills on the wage you were told you were going to get and then found out you were going to have your wages cut – how would you feel? The rich wall street boy’s club has pretty much decimated the private sector working class and now the repubs are going after the public workers.

I am not talking about sacrificing in the way of paying even higher taxes, when the income tax was instituted congress promised that it would never go above 11%……now people completely flipped about that…..I would die for that rate again, when the expenses go above the tax revenue it should not mean that we raise taxes, it should mean we need to cut our spending, except maybe in times of war or something of the sort.

Its called owning it. I on’t care if you make $2 a week you should have to pay some taxes. When people get back all these freebies they don’t respect the ones who payed into it but when they have to pay in to it they will own it.

They have done it. They will do it again.nIt has another name. Filibustering. In this post I was responding to slurs against Democrats. No, we are still about Democracy, Walker never said anything about cutting some collective bargaining. So we are not being represented. It is the people who feel betrayed, like me who are the angriest.nTruth be told, polls show, we are in the majority in the state, and more people are against the removal of union bargain than for.nLook at all the polls.

The people that came to rally and fight against this most frightening move against the unions which have been a back bone in American history, are neither liberals, demos or Repubs. They were teachers, nurses, city workers, just like all of us. Please explore more of the truth about what is happening there and in many other places. Please do not stay ignorant and uninformed. There was no huge financial crisis, until the new governor there gave corporations in that state a 1.8 million dollar pass on taxes. That created the problem. The unions that supported this governor where the police and firemen, they were not being hurt by this bill, only the teachers and nurses, etc. Yet the fireman and policemen were supporting the teachers by coming out and rallying with them. Please learn what is real. This was not about dishonor. This was about stepping out of the game long enough to let the country see what this governor is doing in that state. There are things happening like this. Wake up, if we don’t you will not even recognize this country in the next 20 years!!

Try this.nErnst and Young estimates Wisconsin businesses pay 35% of total state tax receipts, as opposed to a 40% average nationwide. Additionally, Wisconsin businesses pay 47% of local taxes, compared to 52% nationwide. The study then concludes that if Wisconsin businesses paid the national average, they would pay $1.3 billion more, and individuals would pay that much more less.

  • http://www.facebook.com/patricia.eaton1 Patricia Eaton

Silly, they had agreed to pay their fare share. They make less than the private sector there. That is the truth. They had agreed. But they did not agree to dismantle the unions. Again, does everyone watch Fox news in this country to shape their beliefs? You do not know what you are talking about. They could not have debated, that was done. The unions had agreed to the cuts, but not the removal of their bargaining powers. That became the bottom line issue. Yeah sure, a bunch of senators decided not to hang around to debate so they jumped on a bus, wee this is fun and left town. Do you even believe what you just said. Please look up the facts. These are people like all of us. And I am not a libby or whatever you call them. And, Obama had nothing to do with all of this. Again, listening to some crazy news cast filling people with lies again. So what if the unions usually support the democrats and the working blue collar man. That money is nothing compared to what is filled into the coffers of any Republican candidate these days. We still need the unions to help protect the worker. I suppose you are for lowering the minimum wage and getting rid of all workers benefits so that the corporations come back to America again to put people to work. Truly scary place this is becoming.

Yes, correct, In the United States Congress they can do the exact same thing only they do not have to leave the building to do that. It is called fillibusting. They can sit there on their fat ass and NOT vote. That is what happened all last year and why things did not get done in the US Congress. In the Wisconsin State Senate they can not just sit there like that they had to leave to accomplish the same thing. Please learn more about how your government works.

Good Lord! No wonder we are in trouble. When a person is so grateful to the rich for a job, when they do not seem to place any value on themselves, we have a major problem. Do you know that unions for Nurses actually benefit patients. Did you know that unions do not just bargain for pay and benefits, but they bargain for better care of patients by asking for better conditions and products and all kinds of things. Steve, first tax cuts that have been given to the top 1% of our country. They have more money than something like 90% of the people in this country. If we increased the taxes on them for even a few years, we could get out of the mess we are in. And yes even you and me do not pay as much in taxes as we did 15 years ago. You have workers rights, because of the Unions. They set the standards for all workers just about. In my city, we had 2 hospitals, one Union and one not. The non union nurses got an increase in wages everytime the union got one. They have to be pretty close. Now a days though there are quite a few people in unions getting less pay than non union. Go figure.

I don’t think any democrat came up with phrases like “LIBS”, “OBUMMER” or “BARACKIES” just to name a few. Yep, a “median income”, not a high income. Much of what they bargain for has to do with the way the class is operated.nPrivate institution usually have a board that decides those things. The reason for the groaning is because people such as you keep lowering the taxes on those who can afford to pay more. That will not result in more jobs, nor will it result in a better economy. What it will result in is keeping more money out of the economy.nThey did give in to what was asked them– to increase the amount they are responsible for imputing into their pensions.nWhat you are saying makes no sense. Public teachers have more to do than private teachers.nTeachers in public schools do not get money to spend as you suggest. In fact they often spend their own money to get the supplies the classes need.nI agree the pensions were off kilter, but to take out the collective bargaining is a mistake.nWhen we can not afford to invest in the future of this country than we are doomed.

do you guys ever look past your nose? You act like this reverts to 3rd world country labor laws. (none) are you really that stupid? Can you look around and see that many states do not have forced unions at all and are doing just fine? I’m a career government worker and so is my spouse. We are not part of a union, but our benefits and pay are wonderful. We pay for our own benefits. What you people do not seem to understand, is that that public workers do not need unions. They do not need collective bargaining rights against the government. They just unionize against tax payers! The government should not have to ask a union for permission to cut government costs. That’s ridiculous. There shouldnt be a rule where someone is forced to pay 700 bucks a year and more on union dues. Take that money and pay for your own benefits like the rest of us.nnYou think they are heros for protecting Union mobsters? What a freaking joke! You have no idea what a hero is….nAnd you dont think they broke any laws? Why do you think they fled the state? so much misinformation in this post, but what’s laughable is your comment: “most frightening move” LOL!!!!! I could sit here and write a book on how you completely misunderstand the so called “tax breaks” to the corporations and businesses, but I do not think you’d understand. One of the “tax breaks” involves not asking corporations that have not done business in the state for 2 years to pay taxes. If you sold your house two years ago and moved to another state, do you think you should still be paying taxes? That is a simplified example of the various “tax breaks” the liberal rags like to wave in front of their gullible sheep. If the sheep would research and figure out how “money works” they’d feel pretty stupid for backing these unions. Unions are no longer needed. We have labor laws that deal with workers rights.

yes I agree, you’re kinda dense. I also love how the demos lead their sheep into thinking corporations owe some big taxes. Let me clue you in: Profits corporations make go to the shareholders…which are people, who pay taxes on those earnings. So lets say, a company makes a huge profit, the shareholders pay taxes on that profit. Do you want them taxed twice? That’s like getting taxed when you get your check, and then taxed the same amount when you cash it. If they are “sheltering” profit, its just so they dont get double taxed. What I do not get is why you idiots buy into the idea the “rich” dont pay taxes, when without their money the government would collapse. The “Well off” pay 96 pct of the taxes in this country. the top 2 pct pay over 50 percent. As one demo likes to constantly post: “educate yourself”

I keep hearing democrats and democracy. Obviously young people or ones who did not remember why the demos got booted for so many years. They used to be the southern democrats! The north was mostly for the republicans. The south wouldn’t let the republicans have ok’s in the south. Finally in the 1970′s the south realized they weren’t the same party anymore. And that they were freely spending money. And running the country in debt. And the unions used to be good for the employees. But now I hear about workers revolting against unions. And why do we have to be forced to be insured by the government? I don’t want to have to pay for insurance for the wealthy too! People want the wealthy taxed so bad. We would be having to pay for their insurance too. increased Taxes!! Nothing in this world is free. I hate to tell you. But we would be paying increased taxes in the future to do it. We already have to pay some for medicare and medicaide. But it is being used by the ones who need it. Not everybody! We already have insurance for the needy. Medicare and medicaide.

@ PeytonnnTexas is a right to work state. You do not have to join a union to work there. That is the point. The Texas unions are NOTHING like the forced union states. If you do not show up for work, or have a shoddy work record, you get canned. the unions do not have the power there they do in places like WI. I’m from Texas..I know how it works. Learn to get the point. Texas is not a Unionized state. The unions there have no power. period. they are a joke. The most they can do is threaten to sue in case someone gets fired lol

Walker purposely u201cStarved the beastu201d by letting company pay almost noting in taxes and you want the working people to make up the difference for those poor millionaires and billionaires. Also if you payed attention the unions gave in to all financial request. Note collective bargaining is not a financial request. Even Reagan said it was akin to free speech for the worker. So if your against workers, the constitution, and even Reagan then good for you.

Look up the Treaty of Tripoli. Our founding fathers told us that our rights and laws were not given to us by god but by and for we the people. Also serving in a honest fashion in civics is a duty worthy of being called a hero. Service personnel in the armed forces keep us safe from those that would take up arms against this nation, but you forget that forces like the USDA has saved untold many people from the greedy profiteering of corporations that would rather risk you children lives to make additional profit. If a politician is truly working for we the people and not for the corporations than yes they are heros. Some heros have guns. Some have papers. Same hero difference weapons in the fight for the average Joe.

O snap. I am going to steal you quote. Good show Samsara

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joseph-Silveira/100000586994361 Joseph Silveira

Fine let the corporations take us back to the gilded age. I’m tired of living wages, rights, and a future for the next generation. We already know what happen when we let free market do it thing. We called it the great depression.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joseph-Silveira/100000586994361 Joseph Silveira

If your still making a profit in that state than yes you should still pay taxes. this law is for company that take out there brick and mortar stores but still operate in the state. Also stop trying to protect company’s that pay smaller tax bracket than your average worker. You need to look at history. I can tell you that with what I have seen you post on these forms that you lack any knowledge of the United States of America. The founding fathers took up arms against big company when it was squashing the little guys with the OK from the British crown. I think you should look up the Boston tea party as it prove my point well.

Apparently they mean something, or we wouldn’t conduct them and politicians wouldn’t react to them. But if you prefer to remain trapped in your own subjectivity, keep talking. Maybe you’ll convince yourself eventually?

He saved 1500 jobs or didn’t you notice that. It had everything to do with the budget. Had the democrats shown up they would have had the opportunity to vote. They turned chicken and ran. All the treats of violence now shows the mentality of the union thugs and the people who follow them.

  • Anonymous

How long have you lived in Wisconsin. There was and is a financial crisis. Corporations create jobs, they hire people. The firemen and policemen put their lives on the line everyday. Don’t you think they should be protected? Collective bargaining is not a right.

  • Anonymous

He didn’t “save” 1500 jobs. They were never lost to begin with. He was using that as a threat to scare everyone into submission. Funny that the amount of the budget “loss” seems to be the same amount of the “gimme’s” he gave to the corporations and rich. The only “thugs” out there are people like you, paid trolls who can’t see the forest for the trees. Funny how absolutely NO arrests have been made during these protests. But then again free speech only seems to pertain to undereducated fauxers like you. Look for new talking points because yours have already been proven wrong.

they’re getting rid of the EPA, and any other regs they can. Just wait work labor laws soon enough.

@ Joseph.nnYou’re entire post shows you have no clue what you are talking about. “Stave the beast”? Are you out of your mind? “Almost nothing”? did you bother to actually research what companies paid there? Obviously not. Reagan was around when Unions were needed. We do not need Unions for government workers period in regards to money and benefit negotiations. They still have their use, but what I mentioned above is not one of them. And were do you get removing those “collective bargaining” rights makes the teachers pay more? Is there something wrong with people having the right to work without joining a union? No. There is nothing wrong with that. I dont even think Reagan would have liked the idea of people being forced to pay for union fees to work.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4XZZXX2BO744HTAORRF27YOGQ4 catsrus

No, they are not getting rid of the EPA…are you out of your mind?

You need to actually research these “cuts” and what they mean. You sound ridiculous not knowing. Its funny how you believe everything your liberal rags tell you.

@ JosephnnWhat part of **did no business in the state for two years** was hard for you to understand? I’ll try to break it down for you….nnAnd no, it wasnt “big business” they took arms against…it was the GOVERNMENT. And you say I dont know history? The “tea party” was about TAXES not business.nnIf the tea was as cheap as other tea..the colonist wouldnt have given a rip about the company, brand or where it came from. The whole event was about taxes, the government and prices. No one gives a rip about the company that makes the product. nnThey were angry tea was getting taxed and they had no representation. None at all. Stop with the revisionist liberal history…and stay off Wikipedia…that’s not the best place to get info…it’s as biased as your liberal rag.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4XZZXX2BO744HTAORRF27YOGQ4 catsrus

@ SamsarannI said the republicans were the majority.(In WI…the whole subject of the article) My point was, they were the majority in the government as elected by the people. We go by that…not polls. I know what my point was..i made it. Do you get it yet? That is not being “subjective” it’s being objective. Something you seem to have trouble with, if you go by polls rather than the fact there are more republicans in that senate than democrats. Get it yet? Or do I have to make it even simpler for you?

  • http://www.facebook.com/rik.elswit Rik Elswit

The reason Wal-Mart has any benefits at all is because unions fought for them for their workers. They have also been found guilty on a regular basis of violating their own work rulesNon-union businesses had to compete with unionized businesses to get a decent work force. So they had to offer similar wages and benefits.nn If the GOP succeeds in breaking the unions, you’ll see working conditions deteriorate here. There are Republican legislators who are already looking at repealing child labor laws.

This is about your response to my post under this post that I can not respond on. If that is what you want to believe than fine. I am just glad that you allows me to show your true colors with your response to my post. I was much like you when I graduated high school. I have made it a point in my life to better myself and learn more. I now know better and recommend that your try reading Thomas Payne’s u201cRight of Manu201d as it is a good read and helps to give contexts to our revolution.

Walker porpoise gave additional tax brakes for company that did not need them for the sole propose of making a financial crisis.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joseph-Silveira/100000586994361 Joseph Silveira

Really. which company’s are you talking about. I’m curios. You have conveniently havens named any. Secondly you have never read anything about the Boston tea party. I may use Wikipedia for a lot of my information much of my knowledge comes from text books made in 1990,1950, and few from earlier (1905, and 1917).

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joseph-Silveira/100000586994361 Joseph Silveira

Right. the only good point you have is I spelled starved incorrectly. And just to let you know I work in a right to work state and lost my job because I was a whistle blower that prevent coworkers from getting injured. If I was part of a Union that would have not happened. You are either payed by a PR firm or ignorant of the United states history on labor.

I posted this four days ago. You didn’t grace this thread with your presence (no, seriously, you should be embarrassed by your posts here – quantity and quality) until the day after, and when you showed up, you thought it’d be smart to imply that I missed a point which hadn’t yet been made by you. And, to be honest, still hasn’t. I’m awestruck.

  • Anonymous

You really have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about, at all. Show me the law. I don’t mean your dumbass interpretation of the law. I want the statute information. Do you even know what that means?

  • Anonymous

You did not answer the question they asked. Instead you spew your own opinion. There were no arrests because the police favored the Unions. That’s obvious. He did save 1500 jobs because they would have been laid off if the bill did not pass. Do you live in Wisconsin? Have you lived in Wisconsin? You want to name call and blame others instead of dealing with the issues. I would never vote for a person who ran away from a vote or an issue instead of standing my ground and using my right of free speech to speak what my constituents want.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4XZZXX2BO744HTAORRF27YOGQ4 catsrus

@ Joseph. If you were part of a union, then you’d not get fired even if you didnt show up for weeks at a time. I had to put up with Union janitors for years. One lady spent more time out than in…and the other guy never did ANYTHING. If anyone wanted anything clean in that building they’d have to do it themselves. They were over paid, for work they didnt even do, disrespectful to the people they were supposed to be working for, and just general leeches. disband them. We dont need them anymore.nnI’ve lived in both right to work states and unionized states. If you EVER have the unfortunate need to move to a state where you have to deal with these people, your eyes will be opened.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4XZZXX2BO744HTAORRF27YOGQ4 catsrus

oh please. Do you realize that there are several right to work states in the US? Look around. your worries are unfounded.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4XZZXX2BO744HTAORRF27YOGQ4 catsrus

just respond to yourself and type @catsrus … Genius. …nnAnyway…wanting to believe anything someone tells you, and then calling it “bettering yourself” is a fallacy in logic. You can not find one single paper (that is preserved) from that time frame. Not one book, not one declaration not one scrap of paper written back then by our founding fathers or others that declares it was “us vs the corporations”. The only thing you revisionist have is a handful of quotes that are twisted to mean what you want them do. You can find SEVERAL very clear documents and declarations that state: It was about TAXES and the GOVERNMENT. Stop believing revisionist history then calling yourself enlightened. You sound foolish.nnAlso, the book (its “Rights of Man) was written by Paine not Payne, and he believed that the government should come from the people and not by people who inherit that authority. (this means, monarchy not corporations) It’s how this country was founded. That is why we have 2 term presidents. thats why we have senators and the house of representatives. The book is a good read, but if anyone needs to read that book to be ‘enlightened’ to America’s “revolution” they are dumber than I thought, because they LIVE it every day …and they live it every time they go to the polls.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4XZZXX2BO744HTAORRF27YOGQ4 catsrus

@ JosephnnTax incentives and being GIVEN tax breaks are not the same thing. You keep saying you ‘bettered” yourself after “high school”, by continuing to learn Why don’t you learn what these so-called “cuts” (which they arent) are, and what they mean before spewing your nonsense.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4XZZXX2BO744HTAORRF27YOGQ4 catsrus

@ JosephnnWhat do you mean “what companies?” Why do I have to point out companies? ITS IN THE BUDGET. The BUDGET you people keep crying about includes a provision that exempts “businesses that have not done business in the state” for two years from paying taxes. It’s STUPID for people to be mad about this. Yes, it reduces your state income, but your state is not entitled to it. I personally think it was to clear up loose ends in tax collection. I think its pretty sad something like that even has to be put into law to leash the tax collectors.nnAnother tax “break” is an incentive to hire. The companies can not claim this tax break unless they actually do something to fit the guidelines for it. Like hire people, and start projects that promote the economy. If they do not show new growth, they do not get the “break”, so you can stop harping about that “cut” because potentially every penny will go back into the government coffers at the end of the year. The 3rd major “break” is the same thing…its not a real cut…just ,money put aside for growth and development of WIs economy. NO ONE benefits from these incentives (not breaks or cuts…as they are not handed out like your welfare checks.) unless WI does. But you liberals who have no clue how money or government works, scream and protest about things you have NO IDEA about. You have no idea how all of this is GOOD for WI and the WI economy.
