CAMPAIGN DIRECTOR

Full Time • Starts ASAP • Competitive Pay • Excellent Benefits

Work from Anywhere in the Continental U.S.

Our country is facing a unique threat from Trump, his bigoted, destructive politics, and the Republicans who control Congress. We’ll need to oppose and obstruct his agenda in Washington, while also defending and supporting communities facing attacks both from his vicious policies and from an increase in hate crimes and harassment. More than ever, we’ll need to be tireless, creative, and innovative running campaigns that empower our members to stop Trump and the Republicans from attacks on our values, to defend our democracy and our frontline communities, while also looking for opportunities for victories that can advance a progressive agenda.

MoveOn.org is a community of millions of members working together to create progressive change in America. We take on campaigns to challenge entrenched power and push back against right-wing policies, while pursuing economic, racial, and social justice.

MoveOn.org’s campaign directors are high-level organizers, campaigners and operatives who identify, develop, and execute high-impact and game-changing campaigns that empower MoveOn members to achieve concrete victories and further a progressive agenda. We are looking for experienced, passionate, inventive, collaborative colleagues to expand the team in the critical fights that are already beginning in this new political era.

Responsibilities: Execute excellent, high-profile, high-impact campaigns.

  • You will proactively and aggressively find, develop, lead, and contribute to campaigns that tap member energy, boast credible theories of change, and have national impact. You’ll be involved in every step of the process, from drafting plans to executing them. You’ll be involved in listening to members to determine what their priorities are, running a range of online and real-world actions, and sharing a comprehensive, transparent strategy with your colleagues.

  • You will write, write, write. You will write compelling, well-documented emails that motivate members to take a range of actions. You will write thorough campaign plans that include strategies for engaging and empowering members, working constructively with allies, making effective use of MoveOn staff and resources, and accomplishing concrete, ambitious goals. You will write reportbacks about your work on a regular basis to communicate with members, partners, media, and your colleagues.

  • You will show your leadership in managing relationships with colleagues in a collaborative setting, managing the MoveOn member experience, and managing resources that help get the job done. You’ll assess needs for technical and creative support, and you’ll work directly with contractors and consultants. And you will build relationships with allies across the progressive movement and beyond to expand the reach of your campaigns.

  • You will learn and utilize the full range of MoveOn tools—including, but not limited to, our email system, petitions, call alerts, event platform, and database—and keep learning as new tools come into existence or as you devise new tactics yourself.

  • You will be a member of a dynamic, committed, opinionated team, where you will nimbly move among campaigns, support the work of your colleagues, and lean on others for help as well. You will offer top-line and in-line feedback on colleagues’ campaign plans, emails, and other drafts, and you’ll pitch in to help our small team accomplish great things.

  • You will bring your own experience, relationships, and areas of focus into the mix to help devise and drive campaigns, while taking on new areas outside of your expertise and bringing them into your portfolio.

Required skills and experience:

  • Experience leading campaigns that mobilize people, promote progressive values, and make change in the world

  • Strong writing skills for a popular audience

  • Commitment to listening to and empowering members

  • Nimbleness—to move among campaigns, tasks, and strategies

  • Self-directedness—MoveOn is a virtual office, and while you will interact with your colleagues constantly, you will be driving your own workflow and output.

  • Attention to detail

  • The ability to engage with constructive feedback from colleagues and participate in honest staff dialogue

  • Comfort in learning the suite of MoveOn technology tools—You will learn to code your own emails, launch your own petitions, and work deeply in queries within our database.

  • Team spirit—We punch above our weight. To have the impact we do with a relatively small team requires people working together, trusting each other, communicating honestly, and pitching in on all major projects, as well as on tasks large and small.

Location: Position may be based anywhere in the United States.
